Blog search engine optimization (SEO)

Blog search engine optimization (SEO)

Search engine optimization applies to blog posts the same way that it applies to your website. While the good user experience and great content are still the key to SEO, being aware of a few things can make a difference if someone is searching for you on Google or any of the other search engines, and believe it or not, there are more than a hundred. Here are the things to be concerned about. Ideally you want a title that's short and easy to spell with a keyword in it. Preferably the keyword should be the first word if possible. That may make for a title that reads badly, but I wouldn't obsess over it, just be aware.

The best keyword is one that's both relative to, and can be found in the post. Once again, the strongest SEO is when one of the keywords appears in the first paragraph, than between two and 3% of the text. That means that if your keyword phrase is practice tips or musical skills, for example, it should appear two or three times per 100 words. If it doesn't, don't worry, as your ranking won't drop a huge amount just because of that, but it helps a bit if you remember the rule. Every picture or graphic should have an alt title, which is an alternate title that appears if a browsers can't interpret your page, and just shows text.

As it turns out, search engines love these tags, so make sure that you fill them in. Meta-tags are key words that describe your post. All blogging platforms have the ability to insert these with the post. Not only are they helpful for SEO purposes, but they're useful when doing a search of your archives as well. Remember that Google has taken keywords and meta-tags less and less seriously as time goes by. So don't obsess over them.
